Short History of Moreland Courts
Originally the 1922 concept of famed Chicago
architect Alfred W. Harris and finished by Philip L. Small and the
Van Sweringen brothers, the planners and
developers of Shaker Heights and Shaker Square, Moreland Courts has been the
premier address in Cleveland for nearly 80 years.
Moreland Courts is home to corporate CEO's, Cleveland orchestra
members, Case Western Reserve University professors, Cleveland Clinic and
University Hospital physicians, and many others. All have in common their appreciation of our buildings and the environs.
The stunning architectural detail of
Moreland Courts includes a
virtual walk through five English architectural periods—Late Gothic, Tudor,
Elizabethan, Jacobean, and Georgian.
Every suite has beautiful working
fireplaces, original hardwood floors, crown molding, millwork, plaster ceilings,
ample closet space, and individually controlled radiator thermostats. Moreland Courts
consists of fifteen individual connected buildings, four of which being 6- or 8-storey
towers, with 147 units of varying sizes and floor plans from one bedroom to five, spanning an entire residential block
(1500 feet of frontage) along Shaker Boulevard. Originally luxury apartments, Moreland Courts has been a
condominium since 1978 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places
since 1983.
